Bottle Tip Project

This is one of the projects I worked on at Nova Biomedical. I will occasionally use vague wording since this project was made for a product still in development.

  • The bottle that Nova was previously intending to use resembled an eye-drop bottle

  • The liquid from the bottle has to be dropped into a very small specific location, and the previous design made it really hard for the user to do this accurately

    • If dropped incorrectly or spilled, the liquid could get on a liquid-sensitive area of the product which would then break it

Constraints

  • Bottle tip needs to be designed for injection molding

  • Easy for the user to align the bottle to the product

  • Prevent liquid from spilling or not going to the specific location

Iteration 1: Initial Concepts

  • Started by creating a model of the previous bottle tip design, then modifying it to make these concepts

  • Discussing use of horizontal vs. vertical alignment

  • Concept 1 - user would rest product on the bottle tip, providing vertical alignment

    • visual horizontal alignment

  • Concept 2 - user would slot in product in the bottle tip

    • would prevent user from angling the product incorrectly

    • visual horizontal alignment

  • Concept 3 - user would slide in product to make sure the bottle tip opening and the opening on the product are lined up

    • provides vertical and horizontal alignment
