01

Vial Tip

Goal: To precisely guide liquid in a small vial to an exact location on another device, making sure liquid doesn't pool, overflow, or otherwise remain on the vial tip

Skills used:

  • Solidworks, Injection Molding, GD&T

Lessons Learned:

  • Designing a part to be made with injection molding

02

Bracket Alignment Tool

Goal: To make a tool that aligns two backets while somone assembles them to ensure they are parallel and the tops of the brackets are all coplanar

Skills used:

  • Solidworks, GD&T

Lessons Learned:

  • How to simplify a part to make it easier and cheaper to machine

03

Strip Inspection System

Goal: Program the vision system to analyze images and detect irregularities in a prototype's chemistry (overfills, underfills, dust, and misplacement)

Skills used:

  • Java, rapidly acquired and applied new knowledge

Lessons Learned:

  • New programming language of the image analysis software

  • Developed strong problem-solving, adaptability, critical thinking, and self-directed learning skills

04

Ejector Foot Force Measurement

Goal: To measure the force of the ejector foot when the product is off to see if the ejector foot is misaligned.

Skills used:

  • Solidworks,

Lessons Learned:

  • Tolerances for 3D printing

05

Z-axis Motor Force Measurement

Goal: To measure the force that the z-axis motor exerts when picking up a pipette tip

Skills used:

  • Solidworks,

Lessons Learned:

  • In-context modeling in assemblies

06

Pipettor Force Measurement

Goal: To measure the force that the pipettor uses to pick up the pipette tip

Skills used:

  • Solidworks,

Lessons Learned:

  • Simplifying parts to lower 3D printing time
